Nobody likes a thief. Yet every year, those of us that are forced to change every one of our clocks(I guess Arizona thinks they are so cool because they don’t switch back and forth like the rest of us) because some arbitrary time clock boss tells us we have to, we allow time to be stolen from us, for who knows what reason.
They say time flies when you are having fun, but I wasn’t having fun at 2 am when cell phone decided to move time forward to three. It isn’t nice and my clock shouldn’t be allowed to change whenever it feels like it.
Daylight savings time: It bullies us into us changing our clocks. It tells the sun that it can’t come up early in the morning. It takes all the authority we have with our kids and lets them stay out later. It tricks us into thinking we can stay up later and kicks our butts in the morning. It messes with our sleep schedule more than our lumpy, tiny bed with our flat, hot pillows.
Nightlight savings time: It protects us from bumping our knee into the table for the fourth time in the last 5 nights. It allows us to walk up the stairs after a successful night of video gaming without falling on our face and waking up the entire neighborhood. It lets us sneak to the fridge for a midnight five-course meal, desert, and after meal snack. It helps our kids to quit making excuses about why they can’t sleep, after the water, a story, a snack, and of course the they-forgot-to-brush-their teeth delay tactic.
So, who is your winner in the bitter rivalry of the week? Is it the Daylight Savings Time thief, or the live saving, excuse altering, midnight food binging enabler of the Nightlight Savings Time?
Let me know in the comments.

Only the government will tell you that you can take 1 foot of the end of a blanket so it on the other end and it will be A bigger blanket

That is quite a genius saying. Problem being, I’m not a genius, so I didn’t really understand it. Ha ha…

My husband demands a cuddle because ‘we have more snooze time’… fabulous way to start the new day.

It is that way in October when Daylights Savings time is over. But when it starts, there is no snooze time.

I’m a big fan of Nightlight Savings. There have been too many times when I busted a toe or barked a shin without a heroic Nightlight in the neighborhood.
As far as clocks go, people tend to time me with a calendar. My top speed is somewhere near a sloth wading through molasses.

I actually move pretty fast, but only when heading home. When it comes time to leave my comfort zone, I tend to move at the speed of sloths.

The only good thing about Daylight Saving’s Time is that it’s reversed in Fall (usually around my birthday, which means “my day” sometimes lasts for 25 hours! :D)

How awesome would that be to have your birthday last 25 hours. Mine is in April which is usually good because it is just starting to get nice.

I lived in AZ. It sucked when people from back east called because they would always ring us at 5 a.m. our time. “Oh, I forgot.” That’s okay. I just got to bed about an hour ago, you idiot! I am definitely a night person. It’s quiet, everyone is in bed. Except if you are my neighbors. Then you will be running a chainsaw because 9 to 5 means 9 pm to 5 am………ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, people are kind of the worst when it comes to remembering things. People just need to stop being so insensitive to me.

Daylight Savings Time is one of the worst things mankind has ever created. If I ever came face to face with those responsible for instituting it I would advise them of my supreme bitterness accumulated over all these years. Nightlights however are one of the best things mankind has ever created. Love my nightlight…and if I ever came face to face with those responsible for making it I would give them each a hug…after a good night’s sleep of course.

The thing that doesn’t even make sense to me is who actually made it up and why we still need to do it. I thought it was for Farmer’s way back when, but they don’t really need it now either. So essentially we are doing it all for nothing.

It was my understanding DST was created in part to assist farmers. Each year now I see at least one story with farmers being interviewed saying “I hate it too.”

I think most of them probably say, “Why do we do it again?” I hope they aren’t blaming me for this.

I love the Nightime savings idea. Mostly because I hate DST and don’t understand when everyone drank the koolaide.

Arizona figured out a way to deal with it. Why can’t the rest of the states get with the program. I’ve never been a fan of the daytime, because that is when productivity happens. Who needs that? We need the night, so we can play video games and be lazy.

Right, exactly. More relaxing and video games. Why does everyone keep pretending they want to work more?

I’ve been not pretending to work more for years. People need to start being more honest in their laziness.

I had the pleasure of living in Arizona for more than a decade, and I can confirm that Arizona is indeed trying to be cool. Just not in the same sense most people would assume.
If AZ were to set the clock ahead in the spring, the sun would obviously stay out later. Which would be great…if everyone wanted to either be stuck indoors for several months or risk going outdoors and dying from heat exhaustion.
Seriously, though, by not changing with DST, people are able to actually step outside at 8pm on a 120 degree July day by having a slight reprieve without the blazing hot sun to contend with. So yeah, Arizona is totally all about trying to be cool. 😛

If Arizona was so consumed with trying to be cool, they would lower the temperature a little. And not try to be in a desert all the time.

Right? If only they’d try just a little bit harder, this wouldn’t even be an issue. 😝

Instead of just being hot all the time and being famous for having a huge hole in the middle of the state, you’d think Arizona could chill out a little bit.

I’m a huge fan of Daylight Savings Time because my late afternoons and evening daylight are much more valuable to me than early morning daylight. I’m a photographer and history buff, and the places where I like to explore and take pictures aren’t open until 8:00 a.m. yet they stay open “until the sun goes down.”

Yeah, light is pretty important to photography. I just wish they could leave it at that time and just deal with the seasons changing how it already is.

Luckily, we don’t have these changes

I vote for None of the Above. See, I like this thing called Sleep, and get pretty crabby if I don’t get 7-8 hours of it every night. So I’m not a fan of Daylight Savings, because it doesn’t save me enough time to sleep before the alarm goes off. And I’m not a fan of Nightlight Savings, either, because it’s hard to sleep with glowing lights in my room. All I ask for is 12 consistent months of peace and darkness from 10pm to 6am. Maybe I should move to Arizona.

I just ask that daytime savings time just leave us be and let us figure out what time we want it to be.

I care not. I just want “them” to pick ONE and leave it/us alone. Things have been jacked up at my house for a full week.

Exactly. Kids don’t want to wake up for school, because “the sun isn’t up yet”. Doesn’t the sun know it is just supposed to wake us up and not a stupid alarm clock?

I am such a night person too. Daytime is the worst, because it mostly deals with reality which is the worst. Nighttime is dreaming and escaping from reality.

Daylight savings time sucks. It’s unnatural to mess with time. Usually takes me about 2 weeks to get back on schedule.
I love nightlights. When all our lights are off at night, our house looks like a landing strip, because almost every outlet has a nightlight. I have nightlights that change color, glow green, and one is a nightlight that throws pictures of fish up onto my family room ceiling – how cool is that?!
